Guangzhou-based China Southern Airlines inducted its twelfth COMAC C919 into service on 21 July, landing at Baiyun International Airport with tail number B-659G. The jet is the first C919 to join the carrier during the 2026 summer-travel peak and forms part of China Southern’s plan to operate a 24-strong C919 sub-fleet by 2027. The additional aircraft allows China Southern to up-gauge three high-yield business routes—Guangzhou–Chengdu, Guangzhou–Xi’an and Guangzhou–Beijing Daxing—freeing A321neos for international expansion later this year. For corporate travel programmes, that translates into an extra 4,900 weekly seats on some of China’s busiest trunk sectors, helping keep fares in check despite demand spikes. The induction also advances the airline’s decarbonisation pledge; COMAC data show the C919 consumes 12 percent less fuel than comparable current-generation models thanks to LEAP-1C engines and fly-by-wire controls. China Southern’s engineering arm has established a dedicated C919 line-maintenance unit, signalling confidence in reliability as fleet hours climb. Mobility coordinators should update aircraft-type restrictions in safety management systems if their organisations differentiate between Chinese and Western types.
