Eurostar Cancels Multiple Paris-London Services on 20 September
Cross-Channel train operator Eurostar cancelled at least two high-demand services—ES 9011 from Paris Gare du Nord to London St Pancras International and the return ES 9022—scheduled for Sunday, 20 September 2026. Timetable data posted on Eurostar’s booking portal early Sunday flagged the trains as “cancelled” without advance warning, citing unspecified “operational restrictions”. The company later said on social media that the issue was linked to a shortage of border-control staff on the French side combined with train-crew availability. The disruptions come at the tail end of a busy Heritage-Days weekend that already had Paris transport networks under strain. Passenger advocacy group London Continental Rail estimated that up to 1,400 seats were removed from the route, forcing many travellers—including business people heading to Monday meetings—to scramble for alternatives. Eurostar offered free rebooking within 60 days or full refunds but warned that remaining services on 20–21 September were “extremely busy”. For global-mobility teams moving staff between the two capitals, the last-minute cancellations underscore the importance of building slack into travel schedules and monitoring real-time service alerts. Companies with critical movements on short notice should consider back-up options such as Air France, British Airways or, if timing permits, Thalys/SNCB connections via Brussels, although those add at least 90 minutes to the journey. Eurostar has struggled several times this year with staffing levels on French border police booths, an issue expected to ease once the EU’s Entry-Exit System (EES) is fully digitised—now postponed to May 2027. Until then, peak-day disruptions are likely to remain a fact of life for cross-Channel travellers. Passengers affected on 20 September have 30 days to claim EU Regulation 1371/2007 compensation if they arrived more than 60 minutes late at final destination, a reminder for corporate travel managers to file claims promptly.
