TLScontact glitch blocks France visa applicants worldwide
Scores of would-be travellers reported on 3 August that they are unable to finalise appointments on TLScontact—the outsourcing partner that handles French visa submissions in 42 countries. Applicants are being diverted to a QR-code identity-verification page that either fails to load or returns a payment-error loop, effectively freezing their files. A Reddit thread that went viral overnight collected more than 150 complaints from users in New York, Seattle, London, Dubai, Shanghai and Nairobi. Call-centre staff told applicants the system had “exceeded payment-attempt limits” and advised them to delete and re-create applications—only for the delete button to malfunction as well. Several travellers said outbound flights are less than two weeks away and that no walk-in option exists. The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has not issued a formal statement, but a source at the Paris-based Visa Centre Directorate confirmed that the problem lies with a recent security patch to TLScontact’s mobile-identity gateway. Engineers were dispatched early Tuesday to roll back the update and purge failed payment tokens. For corporate mobility teams the episode underscores the fragility of third-party visa platforms at peak season. Employers moving staff to France this summer should budget extra lead-time, monitor appointment portals multiple times per day and be ready to redirect files to neighbouring consulates if capacity opens elsewhere. Travel managers are also advised to avoid non-refundable tickets until appointments are locked in. TLScontact processed 1.6 million French visa files last year; any prolonged outage could add thousands of cases to the already congested Schengen system, with knock-on effects for global project timelines and assignee start dates.
