Cathay Pacific waives rebooking and refund fees ahead of Storm Noul
Cathay Pacific issued an immediate travel-flexibility policy at 19:19 HKT on 24 July, allowing passengers holding tickets for flights to, from or via Hong Kong on 26 July to change dates, reroute or request refunds without the usual administration charges. Customers must complete changes by 29 July and finish travel by 30 September. Fare differences may still apply if the new itinerary is more expensive. The airline said it is “closely monitoring” Severe Tropical Storm Noul and will proactively rebook customers should cancellations become necessary. The waiver applies only to tickets beginning with the Cathay Pacific (160) stock number; codeshare segments on partner airlines are excluded. Cargo bookings are unaffected for now, but the carrier has alerted freight forwarders to the possibility of aircraft down-gauging if wind forecasts deteriorate. Cathay’s decision is in line with its 2024 Typhoon Service Model, which aims to finalise the majority of schedule reductions 24 hours before Signal No. 8 is likely. The model was created after Typhoon Bavi forced a last-minute ground stop in 2025, stranding more than 5,000 transit passengers. By giving customers early flexibility, the airline hopes to reduce congestion at its call centres and relieve pressure on airport staff. Travel managers should advise employees booked on Cathay to take advantage of the waiver as soon as possible, particularly if they need to guarantee attendance at meetings on the mainland early next week. Companies with marine or energy crew changes routed through Hong Kong should double-check minimum-connection-time calculations, as arrival slots for diverted flights may be scarce.
