‘THE CHÄNCE’ webinar shows Baden SMEs how to fund training for foreign hires
Small and medium-sized employers along the Upper Rhine received a mobility-friendly boost on 22 July 2026 when the Federal Employment Agency’s Freiburg and Offenburg offices hosted a joint online clinic titled “THE CHÄNCE – Förderangebote 2026.” The 30-minute session walked HR managers through wage-cost subsidies, language-course vouchers and mentoring grants available when they recruit non-EU professionals under the revised Skilled Immigration Act. Presenters detailed how companies can combine §16d training permits with the ‘Qualified Employee’ subsidy, covering up to 70 % of course fees for German A2–B2 instruction. They also previewed a new pilot allowing simultaneous vocational schooling and on-the-job training for asylum-seekers who switch to the skills track. The region’s Mittelstand is already struggling with cohort retirements in precision engineering and logistics. Agency data show 1,900 vacancies that have remained unfilled for more than six months—jobs that, under the programme, could be opened to candidates still abroad. Participating employers receive a personalised checklist and a direct contact in the BA’s International Placement Service (ZAV). For mobility teams the message is that cost barriers to integrating foreign junior staff are shrinking. Companies eyeing Q1 2027 project launches should start lining up candidates now, as grant budgets are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. A follow-up workshop on document recognition is scheduled for 9 September.
