Cathay Pacific has notified customers that its online membership portal—including account log-in, registration, password resets and profile updates—will be offline for scheduled maintenance between 02:00 and 03:30 HKT on 22 September. The advisory, posted on the airline’s ‘Security and Operational Changes’ page, stresses that flight bookings and check-ins remain unaffected, but members will be unable to redeem Asia Miles or view electronic membership cards during the window. For frequent-flyer programme managers and travel bookers handling last-minute ticket changes, the short blackout could still cause disruption, especially for travellers transiting through Europe or North America where the outage coincides with afternoon hours. Cathay recommends that any urgent redemptions or upgrades be processed before 01:59 HKT. The airline has accelerated backend upgrades this year after a series of high-profile system glitches in April exposed vulnerabilities in its loyalty-platform architecture. The current work involves database sharding and two-factor authentication enhancements aimed at meeting new Hong Kong Monetary Authority cyber-resilience guidelines. Cathay’s notice underscores the growing interplay between cybersecurity and mobility: loyalty systems house sensitive passport and travel-history data subject to Hong Kong’s Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance and the EU’s GDPR for European members. Companies that auto-sync employee mileage accounts with corporate booking tools should monitor for API errors during the maintenance window. A spokesperson told media that SMS and email reminders had been pushed to all 13 million members worldwide. The next scheduled maintenance, focusing on mobile-app payment modules, is slated for late October.
